Community funding events (Participatory budgeting)
An exciting new venture is being rolled out in Liverpool via Neighbourhood Management Areas.
It's called Participatory Budgeting.
What is it?
The idea is to allow local people to participate in the allocation of available financial resources, to benefit their communities. This means they can share some responsibility for what happens where they live, and make some real changes.
How much money will there be?
In 2009/10, there will be two lots of money in each ward to spend on two different themes:
- Cleaner, Safer, Greener
- Health & Wellbeing
In future, there may be more money available for other themes. We want to see whether it's a better method of influencing decisions on how public money is spent.
How will it work this year?
- Local groups come up with ideas for projects that match the funding criteria
- At an organised event, you hear about all of the suggested projects, and vote which ones should get the money
- You benefit from the winning projects when they are put into action
Why do it?
This is a great opportunity for local people to make a real difference to the places where they live.
Successfull allocation of funds 2009-10
The following links will give you information on what groups in each ward, were successful in their funding requests. The first year roll out consisted of two waves. The first wave of 7 wards happened in late November early December 2009 and the remaining 23 wards and the district area took place throughout February and early March 2010.
