HELLO LIL GOODBYE GILL!
In April Liverpool Disabled Living Centre gave a warm welcome to Lil Garland in her post as Centre Manager of Lifehouse. Lil says, "Everyone has made me very welcome and I'm looking forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead."
At the end of May we will say goodbye to Gill Cohen, Senior Occupational Therapist at LDLC. Of her time at the centre Gill says, "I have met lots of interesting people and learnt a lot about equipment which I'm sure will be useful to the people I work with in the future." All at LDLC wish Gill well for her new post in Manchester.
CYCLE SUCCESS
Quest 88 held an All Ability Leisure Roadshow at Liverpool Disabled Living Centre on 15th April. People came along to try first hand a wide range of equipment including tricycles, wheel chair bikes, side-by-sides, the running bike and adapted go-karts at one venue. Quest 88's Emma Hobbs said, "The DLC was a great venue with plenty of indoor space and access to outdoors for people to try the bikes. We really enjoyed the roadshow and felt that it was a great success - it gave us the opportunity to meet lots of local people including children, parents and healthcare professionals - thank you to everyone who visited us and also to all the staff at Lifehouse for their help and support!"
MOVING AND HANDLING ADVICE BACK ON OPEN DAYS
Are you a disabled person or carer who needs advice on safe ways of moving from one position to another e.g. on and off the toilet, in and out of bed, on and off the chair or floor or in and out of a car?
Due to the recent expansion of Liverpool Moving and Handling Service LDLC's Open Days will once again include an opportunity for you to discuss your moving and handling issues with an expert from the team.
Individual appointments for Liverpool residents are also available at our Moving and Handling Advice Sessions on Fridays. For further information call the centre.
LIFEHOUSE AWARENESS SESSIONS
Do you or your organisation give advice to older or disabled people on services or equipment?
If the answer is "yes" why not arrange for your team to visit Lifehouse to learn about the services we provide so you can give your enquirers up to date and accurate information.
Awareness sessions take approximately one and half hours and include information on the services based in Lifehouse and a tour of Liverpool Disabled Living Centre.
Age Concern Liverpool was the first agency to attend a Lifehouse Awareness Session - this is what they thought:
- "Staff and volunteers who attended found the visit informative, useful and enjoyable. It increased our knowledge of what is available and has equipped us to provide quality information and encourage older people, who are able, to visit Lifehouse."
- "The visit was very informative. It's provided me with a greater understanding of the aids and adaptations that are available for elderly and disabled people. The demonstrations were very useful with expert, friendly advice."
- "I found it very fulfilling and the information was useful to me personally. I received advice on aids to help me in the home and I saw an item I will be purchasing"
- "There was a diverse range of resources available"
- "It was a worthwhile visit"
- "It opens your mind to what is available"
- Maria Vaccarello, HABIT, Information & Advice Manager, Age Concern Liverpool says,
"I would recommend anyone who works with older people to visit Lifehouse and if possible attend an awareness session."
To arrange a visit for your team call Jan Lockyer on 0151 296 7742.
