Liverpool City Council - services

Services

Liverpool Disabled Living Centre is a resource centre for disabled people, carers, professionals and other organisations.

We are part of the Community Equipment Partnership - a partnership between Liverpool City Council and the National Health Service. The centre is a member of  Assist UK. Website www.assist-uk.org

The main principle of the centre is to provide people with the information they need to make the right   choices about equipment that can enable them to lead safer and more independent lives.

The centre also provides people with the opportunity to see and try out a wide range of equipment and receive free, impartial advice.

  • The centre's Occupational Therapists carry out individual assessments, providing people with the opportunity to discuss their needs and try specific equipment.
  • The centre has a permanent exhibition of equipment to assist with independence and caring. The centre does not sell or buy any equipment.
  • The centre has an Information Service that can provide details of all the equipment on display and on many other products and services that are available. Contact us and we will send you the information you require. If we can't we'll try and put you in touch with someone who can.
  • The centre has regular Chair Assessment days when an Occupational Therapist specialising in this area can offer assessments and advice.
  • The centre holds Lift advice sessions for people thinking of buying or renting a stairlift or a vertical lift.
  • The centre holds Open Days regularly. All are welcome to see the wide range of equipment on display. Open days usually include benefits advice, consumer advice from trading standards (Wednesday open days only), Continence advice (Tuesday open days only ) and advice on walking aids from a community physiotherapist,  , communication aids advice from Liverpool Communication Aid Service, wheelchair advice from Liverpool Wheelchair Service, and advice on equipment for people who are deaf and hard of hearing from Merseyside Centre for Deaf People (see events page for dates).
