Occupational therapy
As we get older, there may be more and more things that we find difficult to do around the house and in the community.
Occupational Therapists can often advise you and provide equipment to help you with the things that you find difficult.
These could be small things that can make a big difference to your quality of life and independence - such as grab rails, bathing equipment or ramps.
If you have more complex needs, then Occupational Therapists may suggest adapting your home (to make it easier for you to do the things you need to do every day) or moving to a more suitable home. The aim is to help you to remain as independent as possible.
How to get help.
You should contact Careline on 0151 233 3800 or by email at wecanhelp.liverpool.gov.uk You will be asked for details about your circumstances, and what activities you are finding difficult, or alternatively you may prefer to be sent a questionnaire called a "self-assessment" to complete in your own words.
In most cases a member of the Occupational Therapy Team will visit you to find out what you find difficult to manage. This is called an assessment. Following this, they may make suggestions about how to help and offer you equipment.
Liverpool Disabled Living Centre provides free independent, impartial information and advice to people who want assistance in making the right choices about equipment. The centre has a permanent display of over 2,000 products and adaptations. Its information service covers over 20,000 products.
Visits to the centre are by appointment except on one of the frequent open days.

Is there a charge?
The assessment of your needs and advice from the Occupational Therapy Staff will not cost you anything. Some items of equipment and adaptations are also free.
However, if the Occupational Therapist recommends extensive adaptations which are not funded by Supported Living, these may be subject to a means test. The Occupational Therapist will advise you of this during your assessment.
