Health and medical care
If you require health advice or treatment there are a number of options available to you.
You can make an appointment with your GP, your local surgery can advise you of opening times and the services they offer.
If you feel that you require treatment urgently you can obtain advice over the telephone from NHS Direct on 0845 4647. NHS Direct operates a 24-hour telephone nurse advice and health information service, providing confidential information on:
- What to do if you or your family are feeling ill
- Particular health conditions;
- Local healthcare services, such as doctors, dentists or late night opening pharmacies.
Minor injuries can be treated at the Walk in centres which are based at Old Swan and in the City Centre.

The NHS has a Get the right treatment checklist to see that you follow the correct steps in getting the right treatment.
Serious injuries and illnesses should be treated at the Accident & Emergency units at the Royal Liverpool Hospital, or Aintree Hospital in Fazakerley and Alder Hey Hospital for Children.
