Choosing a care home
This information is for older people who are thinking about moving into a care home , and who may need help paying the fees.
What is a care home?
A care home is a place where people can live in comfortable suroundings and be looked after day and night by trained staff.
There are two main types of cares home:
- Care Homes have trained staff who can offer you the same care that you would recieve from relatives and friends
- Care Homes (nursing) will provide the same level of care but will also have trained nurses on duty to provide skilled nursing care when you you need it.
They are run by:
- voluntary organisations;
- private individuals
- private companies and
- the council
Care homes can vary in size from homes to for 10 people up to 150 people. All care homes have to be registered with the Commission for Social Care Inspection and by law they have to reach certain standards
How much will I have to pay?
Your contribution will be worked out using government rules and your social worker will be able to give you more inforamtion about about the income we take into account .
