Frozen meals service for people over 65
What is the Frozen Meals Sevice?
The Frozen Meals Sevice in Liverpool is provided by Wiltshire Farmfoods, part of the Apetito group, under contract from the council.
Meals are delivered fortnightly to your home for you to store and cook as required.
The service is available on request to anyone in the city. You do not need to go through an assessment process.
If you wish to receive frozen meals through this service you should contact Careline on 0151 233 3800.
What are the meals like?
All the meals are nutritionally balanced, but you also need to eat well for the rest of the day to make sure that you meet all of your daily requirements. Always make sure that you follow the instructions on the meal cartons.
Do you cater for people's religious and cultural dietary needs?
We provide the following appropriately prepared food:
- Vegetarian
- Halal
- Kosher
How much do I have to pay?
The council reviews the charge to users every year. The current charge (set in July 2004) is £2.10 per meal.
How do I pay?
You can pay the driver when he delivers the meals, or you may want to pay by cheque or standing order. Someone from Wiltshire Farmfoods will talk to you about the best way for you to pay.
What equipment will I need?
You will need a freezer to store the meals and a microwave to cook them.
How do I order meals?
Someone from Wiltshire Farmfoods will visit you when you first request the service. They will explain how the service works and check that you have a suitable freezer and microwave. They will assist you with your first order. They will also give you menus and order forms and tell you which day of the week the meals are delivered in your area.
From the menu you select the meals you want and give the form to the driver when he delivers your first order. You don't have to order a meal for every day of the week - just order how many you need. But remember the meals are only delivered every 14 days.
Make sure that you have sufficient space in the freezer to store the meals you order and place the meals in your freezer as soon as they are delivered.
What if I need help to prepare the meal?
If you feel that you (or a relative or friend) need help to prepare the meal, or assistance eating the meal, you should contact Careline on 0151 233 3800 and ask for a community care assessment. They will arrange for someone to come out and assess what help you need.
What if I don't want meals for a period?
If you don't need the meals for a period (for example if you are going away on holiday) reduce your order or tell the driver. When you want to start taking meals again, you can contact the Wiltshire Farmfoods office, give them your order and the service will start again.
What if I have any comments or complaints to make?
We welcome compliments and suggestions and will deal quickly with any complaints. In the first instance you should contact the office at Wiltshire Farmfoods.
If you are still unhappy, you can ask for a copy of the council's 'Have your say' leaflet. If you prefer you can pick up a copy of the leaflet at any council one stop shop or telephone Liverpool Direct 0151 233 3000.
