The Liverpool Supporting Carers Strategy 2005/2006 is a multi-agency plan that has been developed in partnership and following extensive consultation with carers and organisations supporting carers.
Our Vision
Our vision is for carers in Liverpool to be recognised and valued for the positive contribution that they make to our community.
That they are enabled and empowered to take control of their own lives by identifying their own needs; increased choice; high-quality, flexible support and services; improved information and advice.
Aims of the Strategy
The aims of this strategy are to:
- Promote the Carers Agenda across all agencies city wide
- Ensure all carers are encouraged and supported to identify themselves
- Continually improve the assessment process for carers putting them at the centre of assessing their own needs and identifying how those needs can best be met
- Work in partnership with statutory, voluntary and community organisations to develop a wide range of quality, innovative and preventative services that ensure greater social inclusion and quality of life for carers
- Ensure carers are signposted to the most effective, appropriate and flexible support, information and services to meet their needs
- Encourage the development of innovative models of service delivery and harness technologies to meet the needs of our diverse communities
- Promote carer consultation and involvement in the design, delivery and review of services.
Priorities
The strategy has been broken down into 9 key priorities for action.
The 9 key points are:
- Identifying carers
- Information
- Consultation and involvement
- Carers assessments
- Short breaks and support services
- Direct payments
- Maintaining the health of carers
- Carers from black and minority ethnic communities; and
- Young Carers.
These priorities were formulated from national and local priorities for carers and following extensive consultation with carers and statutory, community and voluntary organisations supporting carers.
Together they form the basis by which Liverpool City Council, in partnership, aim to develop and deliver carer support services in Liverpool.
