Liverpool City Council - Supporting people

What is Supporting People?

Supporting People helps vulnerable people to live more independently. Supporting People gives people the choice to receive support in their own home or helps them to access accommodation where support is available on site.

The Supporting People programme is a grant fund that is used to pay for support services through a working partnership of local government, health, probation, support providers and customers that use support services.

In Liverpool we aim to deliver high quality and planned housing-related services which are cost effective and reliable, and complement existing care services.

Liverpool has launched a SUPPORT CHARTER which was developed following a number of engagement events with service users, stakeholders and providers. Service Users in particular have had a great deal of involvement with the development of the Support Charter, not just at the Engagement events but through the LIVERPOOL SUPPORTING PEOPLE FORUM which is made up of people who use SP funded services in Liverpool. Liverpool expects all providers to be signed up to the Support Charter and this will be a key element to be considered during the SP service tendering processes. Click here to download a copy of the Support Charter (MS Word [1.8Mb] opens in new window).

Liverpool is Supporting People Well

Liverpool's Supporting People Programme was visited in 2007 by the Audit Commission. The services provided through Supporting people were rated as "a fair programme that has excellent prospects for improvement" - a major turn round since the last time inspectors came to Liverpool in December 2005.

The inspectors made a series of recommendations to enable the service to continue to improve. These include strengthening the monitoring of its performance and outcomes and improving access and information relating to services. You can view a full version of the SP Improvement Plan here.
