City Centre North
The City Centre North Zone of Opportunity includes the Everton and Kirkdale wards and is located on the northern corridor into the City and is therefore linked to South Sefton, one of the most deprived and problematic areas within the NewHeartlands pathfinder area. Why has my area been chosen for regeneration?
The decline of the City Centre North Zone is attributed to massive depopulation, with the area losing 80-90% of its population over the past 50 years. The resulting ad-hoc clearance and redevelopment produced a disjointed built form with large areas of under-used land and unpopular housing heavily weighted to social renting.
What is happening?
The programme for City Centre North is in its early stages, with strategies currently being developed to regenerate the area. The lead roles of David Wilson Homes(developer) and Liverpool Housing Trust (RSL) are now in place, along with neighbourhood teams to help engage the community and take these plans forward.
We aim to improve the area, by clearing the worst of the housing, building new homes and refurbishing some existing properties in the more sustainable neighbourhoods, to create greater choice and modern standards.
A number of new housing developments are currently progressing or are planned for the future. These will provide modern standards and choice to the current community and people looking to move into the area, include:
- Roscommon Street, currently on site.
- Devonshire Place, currently on site. For further information please contact Liverpool Housing Trust (LHT) on 01928 796000.
- Easby Estate redevelopment site- start on site anticipated 2008.
- Grosvenor Street redevelopment site- start on site anticipated 2008 / 2009.
How long will all this take?
The re-development of City Centre North is in its early stages and is an integral part of the whole regeneration process for North Liverpool. It is therefore expected to be a long process, taking up to 15 years to deliver.
