Liverpool City Council - Discretionary renovation grant

Discretionary renovation grant

If your home is in serious disrepair, and you can prove that you or a member of the public are in danger due to the condition of your property, and you are on a low income, we may be able to offer a Discretionary Renovation Grant.

This grant is means tested, which means we look at your income and then decide how much grant you are entitled to.  If we decide to approve a discretionary renovation grant for a property, there is an upper limit of £10,000 to the amount of grant we will give.

We will only give one of these grants for work that we say can be done.  If we do approve a discretionary renovation grant, the work that is needed must make the property fit to live in.  We will only approve this grant if no other grants are suitable and there is no other answer.

This page briefly describes the help available and how to apply for a grant.  It does not provide full details about the City Council's policy regarding discretionary renovation grants.  If you are not sure or have any problems about this grant, please contact Agency Services (contact details are further down this page).

If you are going to ask for any grant, it is important that you do not tell contractors to start any work which you want us to help pay for, unless we give you written permission to do so.

Getting advice

Usually, we will only consider this grant if other grants or schemes are not suitable.  Because the work that needs to be done is usually quite ranging, we recommend that Agency Services act as a professional agent or consultant to manage the grant from the initial plans to the work being finished.

You can get general advice about the grant from Agency Services office:
