Health Impact Assessment of the Housing Strategy

With colleagues from the city's Primary Care Trusts and other agencies, we have carried out a Health Impact Assessment (HIA) of our Housing Strategy Statement. We wanted to improve the links between housing and health.
We have worked on various projects to look at how housing affects health. These include the following:
- Working with children and young people to see how they can be part of the consultation process
- How we can tackle the problems of the poorest people living in some of the worst condition homes. These are often Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs), the Housing Act 2004 now helps us to address these proplems
- Providing a Health Contact Card with useful health and advice contacts for Liverpool residents
- Holding seminars to talk about Energy Efficiency
- Mains water pipes made of lead can leave traces of lead in drinking water. This can have a bad effect on health, particularly in young children. The City Council has continued its programme to replace lead mains water pipes
- Consultation, and how this can be improved.
The HIA has been agreed by Liverpool's Strategic Housing Partnership and the City Council's Executive Board. A full Health Impact Assessment report has been produced.
