Liverpool City Council - Housing strategy

Housing Strategy

The City Council produces a housing strategy for the city.  This has to cover all privately owned, and all rented homes.

The Government and the Regional Housing Board look at our Housing Strategy Statement every year.  They do this when they decide how much money to give to the city.

Our housing strategy is also a key part of the Liverpool First Community Strategy

The city's housing market is doing well in some parts of the city, especially the city centre and our southern suburbs.  But in some areas of the north, the market has been struggling for a number of years.  There are many houses now empty because nobody wants to live in or buy them.  This means there is a huge opportunity to do something that will change all of this.

Restructuring the housing market will take 20 years - and it is a task we have already started.

Our aim is to provide new homes that will match the aspirations of people in the 21st century. In future years, we want to stop those who get better jobs leaving the city to look for better housing in other places.  If we can do this, our housing strategy will help to encourage people to stay here, work here - and therefore improve our economy.  This will help Liverpool to become a premier European city.
