Liverpool City Council - job training and development

Job training and development

Our diversity and social inclusion team provide training opportunities within the council for specific groups within the community.

We are committed to having a workforce that reflects the community we serve. We are doing much to encourage people from under represented groups to come and work for us, including people from black and minority ethnic groups and people who consider themselves to have a disability. We have realised the need to do more to encourage young people who find themselves out of training and employment to train within the council.

The performance of all Councils is measured through nationally set Best Value Performance Indicators. This enables comparison with other Local Authorities. Core Cities (Birmingham Bristol, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Sheffield)

Equality Indicators continues to show the City Council as the best performing and fastest improving Council (top quartile for most indicators). 10% of our top 5% of earners are from black and other minority racial communities, 40% of our top 5% of earners are women; (2005 figure 46%), 7% of our staff have declared they have a disability, (the highest percentage for all Core Cities) and 6.54% of our staff are from a black or other minority racial group compared to a BME population of 5.7% (2001 Census).

Liverpool City Council is in the top 25% of authorities providing accessible service for disabled people. More than 60% of our public facilities are already fully accessible to disabled people and the Council has achieved the 2 ticks recognition from the Job Centre Plus and Access to Work.
