Dealing with a large and very varied workload Communicating with clients, contractors, potential suppliers and sometimes the general public. A view of how the Council contracts for goods, services and works A view of how the Procurement Support Unit works with other Services Use of I.T for producing documentation packs & for recovery of income Involvement in a current procurement exercise Working within a small, professional & very busy team - What would I be doing?
This work placement will involve you following live procurement activities alongside either the manager or one of the procurement officers. You will be involved in : - producing documentation packs - recording submissions - research work - Who works there and what do they do?
- Procurement Support Unit Management -
Responsible for delivering procurement support to the council - Procurement and Contract officer - The Team manage a range of contracts used council-wide. They give procurement advice to other Council officers and guide them through the procurement process. They also deal with enquiries from potential suppliers and clients.
- Income recovery & contract Administrator - Manages the income recovery for the Unit. Responsible for interrogating the Council's financial system, invoicing Contractors and managing the debt, also assists with the budget monitoring for the Unit

The City Council has five areas of Financial Managagement. - What would I be doing?
Use of spreadsheets & Word Processor applications (Excel & Word) Enveloping and posting of cheques and correspondence Dealing with telephone and counter enquiries, making use of the computer system Mail sorting and distribution General clerical duties (filing, photocopying etc) Maintenance of records (computerised and otherwise). - Dress code - Smart and tidy

- Head Of Consultancy - Overall responsibility for the consultancy and all the work carried out.
- Engineers - Responsible for the day to day organising of the work load and liasing with clients.

Placement Title: Clerical Assistant (Revenues & Benefits)
- Description:
The Revenues & Benefits Service collects local taxes: the Council Tax, Business Rates and Residual Poll Tax. We also process claims for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit for people who are not working or who are on low pay.
The service also delivers the Council's cashiering services.You will deal with a range of customers face to face and help with enquiries. You will help manage the Council Tax Register and assist with the collection of Council Tax.
This includes observing the procedures taken in the Magistrates Court to ensure payment of local taxes. You will help with the distribution of mail across the service and the issuing of receipts. You will assist with the processing of Benefit Applications.
- What experience would I get?
You will spend some time at the front desk helping to deal with customers enquiries and applications for benefit. You will spend some time in the Magistrates Court observing the procedure for collection of local taxes. You will also be expected to carry out some routine tasks like opening the mail, filing and photocopying. - Who works there and what do they do?

Has overall responsibility for the collection of Council tax and Business Rates and the processing of Welfare Benefit Claims - Revenues & Benefits -
Supervises a team of staff. Is responsible for the day to day collection of taxes or processing of benefits - Revenues & Benefits Officer -
Maintains the Council Tax Register and collection of Council Tax or processes benefit applications following legislation and set procedures.

- What would I be doing?
Using IT to maintain the Council Tax Register or process Benefits. Communicating with customers of all ages and backgrounds. Working as part of a team. Finding out how the City Council obtains finance to provide services for their residents and how they help residents with their council tax and rent. - Dress code - Smart and tidy

You would gain basic financial, administration and record keeping skills both computerised and on paper. You would also be dealing with a variety of different people across the Positive Action Training Programme both face to face and on the telephone helping to develop your customer service and communication skills. - What would I be doing?
This placement involves the use of spreadsheets, databases and word processing applications to manage, update and maintain financial records. You would be dealing with general clerical duties such as filing, photocopying and correspondence. - Dress code - Smart and tidy

- Finance Officer - Deals with the maintenance and upkeep of financial records and associated work

- Administration Officer - General clerical duties including filing, photocopying, customer service and records maintenance
