    Interaction with staff and clients. Dealing on a day to day basis with the elderly.

  • Description:
    Provide sheltered housing for older people. Manage the schemes. Carry out repairs and maintenance.
  • Who works there and what do they do?
    • Managers - Recruitment , control budgets, planned maintenance programmes, staff training
    • Administration Team - Provide all the admin support necessary to run the team. Liaise with scheme managers and contractors. Provide statistical information. Answer telephone and deal direct with the public. Varied interesting work in a busy office
    • Scheme mangers - Work on site. Manage the sheltered housing scheme.
  • What would I be doing?
    Communication skills improved. Work in a busy office as part of a professional Team. Learn about the management of properties and the special needs of older people
  • What experience would I get?
    Anything you would like to gain experience in. Shadow the managers, spend a day at one of our 24 sheltered schemes. We would plan a varied and interesting programme of work experience.

Placement Title: Support Worker - Speke Resource Centre

  • Description: Supporting people with disabilities (physical and learning) by enabling people to develop local community links, education, life skills, future job prospects etc.
  • What experience would I get?
    To be part of a busy staff team. Planning, promoting services and links for people with disabilities. Working with other agencies (social workers, occupational therapists, leisure [swimming, cinema, restaurants etc]). Supporting people who attend the service. The concept of the modernisation and future of day services. What services are available in the city generally. Basic concept of office skills, policies, procedures etc. What is expected of a person in employment (signing in, to not be late, problems affecting work etc). Also experiencing that work can be a place that is enjoyable and fulfilling for you.
  • What would I be doing?
    Supporting the support workers to support the people who attend the centre. Going out in the community with people (computers, leisure etc). The general day to day support within the service.

    YOU WILL NOT BE EXPECTED TO DO ANYTHING WITHOUT A MEMBER OF STAFF OR TAKE PART IN ANYTHING THAT YOU FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE WITH.

  • Description: Acorn Resource Centre is an educational / training centre for people with disabilities, Physical Sensory - Learning - Mental health. The overall aim of the service is to work with disabled people to facilitate independent and inclusive living and active participation in the social and economic life of Liverpool. Specifically it aims to enable disabled and disadvantaged people to:
    • Access appropriate training and educational opportunities, either on site or via external provision, which will assist them to develop life skills and / or prepare them for employment.

  • What experience would I get?

Obtain work experience within the role of support worker, working within social care setting.   • What would I be doing?
    The placement would involve shadowing designated members of staff to gain insight into their role, the trainee would not be expected to carry out the full role of support staff such as personal care or any other issues of a confidential nature. They will however be given a clear insight into this functional role. Time would also be scheduled into your placement in spending time with the manager to be given a range of information concerning social care related vocations.
