Placement Title: Business Systems Support - LDL

  • Description: Business Systems Support is responsible for the maintenance and support of computer systems vital to the smooth running of Liverpool Direct Ltd & Liverpool City Council.
  • Who works there and what do they do?
    • Systems Support Staff - 
      2 teams whose members are responsible for many varied systems, including Education, Housing, Financial and infrastructure systems - staff includes Programmers and Systems Analysts.

  • What experiance would I get?
    A broad understanding of the role played by Systems Support staff (Programmers/Systems Analysts) in a multi-platform/multi-discipline local government environment

    What would I be doing? Call maintenance - using the call logging system to monitor workloads Creation and delivery of Word Documents/Excel Spreadsheets to customers Gain an understanding of the Project Life Cycle and its relevance to Business Systems Support Accompany support staff on site visits to implement work and fix faults Accompany support staff to meetings to progress ongoing work Create and maintain a diary of duties undertaken during the placement

Placement Title: ICT Technical Support - LDL 

  • Description: ICT support for council services 

  • Who works there and what do they do?
    Technical Services ICT staff -Third line support for the whole of Liverpool City Council 

  • What experience would I get?
    • Gain a basic understanding of Local Area Network and Wide Area Network infrastructure.
    • Access to the North West Learning Grid and Anglia Multimedia software. ? Obtain a basic understanding of a project lifecycle.
    • Obtain a basic understanding of service level agreements. 
  • What would I be doing?
    • General Administration - mail sorting, filing, creation and update of word and excel documents.
    • Creation of a basic Project Plan for work assigned during a placement.
    • Accompany engineers on site visits to implement the Next Generation Services project to schools.
    • Configuration of PC's to the
    • Education internet and e-mail service. Maintain diary of stay in the section
    • Produce Powerpoint presentation of Events
