Feathered Friends - Summer Exhibition of Rare Books

A selection of material from the special collection will be on display in the Picton Reading Rooms during the summer.
The exhibition of rare books all have beautiful images of birds. Books on display include Audubon's Birds of America and Catesby's Natural History of the Carolina's. Further information about the books on display can be downloaded here.![(MS Word [24.5Kb] opens in new window)](/images/Word.gif)
The exhibition is free, open during normal Central Library opening hours

Garston Library 100th Birthday Celebrations

Garston Library celebrated being open for 100 years on Tuesday 26th May 2009. The library was opened on 26th May 1909 by the Lord Mayor of Liverpool. One hundred years later the current Lord Mayor of Liverpool Cllr Mike Storey CBE opened the centenary celebrations.
The day attracted over 1000 visitors.
The staff at Garston Library and One Stop Shop would like to thank the local community and community partners for taking part in a very special day.
1 million pounds Big Lottery Fund award!
Toxteth Library will be closed from Monday 24th November 2008 for refurbishment. We apologise for any inconvenience to our customers.
The nearest library services are Edge Hill Library and Central Library.
The Chinese Library Service will be moved to Edge Hill Library.
Toxteth Library has been awarded £1 million from the Big Lottery Fund to transform the library so it can provide a 21st century community resource. Local people will be at the heart of the new development.

Over 1000 stories added so far
Liverpool Libraries have been the community partner for the successful What was in Walton project. It was a project to involve as many people as possible in the Walton area to read and write their own story of their area. This project has now expanded to include the whole city.

Subscriptions
Free access in Liverpool Libraries to OUP Online and major family history database

Liverpool Libraries and Information Service now have free access to the Oxford University Press reference online. Titles include the Dictionary of National Biography, Oxford English Dictionary, Groves Art Online and Groves Music Online.
All titles can be searched for free on any Liverpool Libraries public computer by clicking Library Applications then Digital Library from the start menu.
Library members can also search the above titles from the reference page by typing in your full library ticket number including all letters and numbers.

Ancestry Library Edition is one of the leading resources of online family history research.
It is now freely accessible at any of our community libraries and central library. We have over 350 public computers, all with broadband access to the internet. Ancestry Library Edition can be easily browsed and searched and has a user-friendly approach to design.
To access Ancestry Library Edition log onto a public computer and click Library Applications and then Digital Library.
