Liverpool City Council - the peoples network

The People's Network

The People's Network project is part of the Government's commitment to give everyone in the UK the opportunity to use computers and access the internet. In Liverpool every public library has an ICT learning centre.

This means over 300 publicly available computers with high speed access to online resources such as:

  • the internet and e-mail facilities
  • community information
  • Government services
  • learning materials (tutor support in many libraries)
  • a range of office software applications
  • screen magnification and speech software
  • scanning documents or images

The People's Network offers opportunities to everyone, regardless of age or individual circumstances. You can use the internet to:

  • support your studies in school, college or university
  • learn for fun - pursue a hobby in a supportive and friendly environment
  • acquire new skills to improve your job prospects or professional development
  • find out what is going on locally
  • use e-mail to keep in touch with family or friends
  • research your family history
  • plan your holiday
  • shop online

For more information, contact your local library or Liverpool Central Library.

The Peoples Network now has a website www.peoplesnetwork.gov.uk where you can chat to a librarian, find a reading group or search for images held in public libraries across the country.
