Silver Surfers Day at Garston Library with HSBP

This year Liverpool Libraries are holding their Silver Surfers Day at Garston Community Library. The event will be hosted in partnership with Henshaws Society for Blind People (HSBP) Liverpool.

We would like to invite any new silver surfers (over age 50) to come along and try the internet. Especially welcome would be any customers with sight impairment as we will have the experts on hand to help you use the adaptive software. On the day you can have a taste of doing the following online:

  • Surf the internet

  • get an email account

  • look up your family history

  • use microsoft office

You tell us what you would like to try and we will try to help you. This event is free, refreshments will be available.

Another Hard Days Night

A new and exclusive exhibition celebrating The Beatles 1964 homecoming.

10th July 1964 the Beatles returned home to Liverpool. The iconic scenes of The Beatles return were shown around the world. This exciting exhibition retells this tale using the wealth of archives kept at Liverpool Record Office. From the first steps off the aeroplane at the Old Liverpool Airport to the rapturous reception at the Town Hall and then on to the northern premiere of their first feature film A Hard Days Night at the Odeon Cinema in London Road, Liverpool.

1.3 million pounds Big Lottery Fund award!

Toxteth Library has been awarded £1.3million from the Big Lottery Fund to transform the library so it can provide a 21st century community resource. Local people will be at the heart of the new development.

Over 1000 stories added so far

Liverpool Libraries have been the community partner for the successful What was in Walton project. It was a project to involve as many people as possible in the Walton area to read and write their own story of their area. This project has now expanded to include the whole city.

Free access in Liverpool Libraries to OUP Online and major family history database

Oxford Reference Online logo

Liverpool Libraries and Information Service now have free access to the Oxford University Press reference online. Titles include the Dictionary of National Biography, Oxford English Dictionary, Groves Art Online and Groves Music Online.

All titles can be searched for free on any Liverpool Libraries public computer by clicking Library Applications then Digital Library from the start menu.

Library members can also search the above titles from the reference page by typing in your full library ticket number including all letters and numbers.
