Great Homer Street Market

Great Homer Street Market, also known as 'paddys' or 'greaty' to locals, dates back to 1840 when it was transferred from land on which St Georges Hall now stands. It was then known as North Haymarkets. The affectionate name of 'Paddy's' market came from Irish sailors and famine immigrants who shopped here for bargains.
The founder of Matalan, John Hargreaves, began his career in Great Homer Street Market, as did Solitaire, the Liverpool fashion retailer and Jeffs of Bold Street, which recently, won the accolade of Independent Fashion Retailer of the Year.
