Liverpool City Council - st johns market

St Johns Market

St Johns Market

The historic St John's market opened in 1822 and was the first covered general food market in Great Britain. The current St John's market is based in St John's precinct in the city centre and was opened to the public by the Queen in April 1971

St Johns market is situated in the heart of Liverpool city centre and is a firm favourite for shoppers who have been loyal customers for years, attracted by the quality produce available at reasonable prices.  Word has spread about this excellent market, and St Johns regularly welcomes coach loads of bargain hunters from Manchester and the Isle of Man.

Many of the stalls are real family affairs and have been in the market for many years, from generation to generation, making this market a real gem. One popular fish stall has been trading for over three generations and base their success on fresh, quality produce. The 36 year success of one butcher says it is down to the strong, loyal customer foundation who seeks fresh, affordable meat daily.

Liverpool is a multi-cultural society, and this diversity is reflected in St Johns by the variety of products which can be found.

Come and experience the spirit of St Johns steeped in history, tradition and culture. Witness the local friendly atmosphere for yourself where there's always a warm welcome.

St John's market can be found on the upper level of St Johns precinct. There are stalls selling meat, fish, fruit and vegetables, clothing, makeup, greeting cards and much, much more!  And when you need a break from all that shopping, there are a variety of cafe's and places to eat.

This market is one of the two permanent indoor markets in Liverpool (the other being Broadway) it trades six days a week Monday- Saturday.

Bus stops, taxi ranks and public parking can all be found close by.
