Green Flag Awards for Liverpool's Parks
The Green Flag Award scheme is designed to recognise and reward the best parks and green spaces in England and Wales. Independent judges were invited to visit several of our Parks and looked at their condition, our management and customer care. As a result thirteen of your Liverpool Parks and Gardens have been officially accredited with a Green Flag Award. New winners this year were Croxteth Hall & Country Park and Anfield Crematorium Gardens. Past winners - which were also successfully re-assessed - were the traditional Greenbank Park; St Johns Gardens; Devonfield Garden, a small community square; Everton Park Nature Garden and Springwood Crematorium Gardens. Calderstones Park , Woolton Woods & Camphill, Reynolds Park, St Nicholas Church Gardens; Falkner Square and Belle Vale Park complete the 100% result which places Liverpool amongst top three in the country.
The Green Flag Award scheme is managed by the Civic Trust on behalf of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and the Green Flag Advisory Board. Members of the Board include CABE Space and the Big Lottery Fund. This national standard for parks and green spaces is a key component of the Government's commitment to create cleaner, safer and greener communities.
There are eight criteria which Green Flag Award judges assess - a welcoming place; healthy, safe and secure; well maintained and clean; sustainability; conservation and heritage; community involvement; marketing; and management.
