Open Spaces
There are plenty of open spaces within easy reach of Liverpool city centre.
North of the city are splendid dunes and beaches at Formby and Southport. To the south lies Otterspool promenade, a popular spot for a Sunday stroll.
Across the River Mersey lie more golden sands at West Kirby, Thurstaston, Hoylake and New Brighton. If you check the tides you can cross the sands at West Kirby to spot seals from Hilbre Island, and a walk along the Wirral west coast affords views of the Welsh mountains.
The Mersey is becoming ever-cleaner, as witnessed by the increasing aquatic life. Fishermen are a common sight along both the banks of the river and on the Leeds-Liverpool canal, and the tow-path is also popular with walkers.
