Liverpool City Council - city centre parks

City Centre parks

St. John's Gardens
St. John's Gardens lies behind St. George's Hall and is a popular escape from the City Centre.
Sometimes referred to as the 'Peace Gardens' this is indeed a peaceful place to sit, just a couple of minutes walk away from the main shopping area.

The gardens contain many notable statues and memorials to local people, leading to it being dubbed 'Liverpool's al fresco Valhalla'. These include Father Nugent who looked after many orphaned children in Liverpool, Gladstone, the four times Prime Minister born in Liverpool and a memorial to the Liverpool Regiment.

More recently commemorative trees have been planted to remember more contemporary city sons, John Lennon and George Harrison. The gardens are surrounded by some of Liverpool's finest buildings and foremost attractions; the World Museum Liverpool, the Walker Art Gallery and of course St. Georges Hall. The entrance to the Mersey Tunnel (Queensway) can also be seen from here.
