Future Initiatives
Picton Sports Centre 50m Pool
The Sports Lottery has given first stage approval for a grant to build the £8m Picton 50m Pool. Negotiations are proceeding and hopefully the facility will be complete by the end of 2003.
This will provide the only Olympic standard facility in the city and will give a significant boost to the swimming development programme, and leisure provision in the City as a whole.
Banks Road Recreation Ground
A new facility is being built adjacent to the Garston Urban Village Hall.
Playing Field Provision
A major review is currently being undertaken to ensure that the overall supply of pitches is adequate to meet the future needs of football, cricket, rugby and hockey teams based in the city.
The results enable the City Council together with other agencies to plan more effectively future investment in these facilities.
Pitch improvements
Proposals are being prepared with the help of the new Football Foundation at the William Collins Sports Ground, Everton Park, Jericho Lane Sports Ground, Sparrow Hall (Joe Stone Sports Ground).
Mini Soccer schemes
These schemes are being designed with the help of the F.A. at the Maiden Lane / Townsend Lane Sports Grounds, and in association with the MYA at the Heron Eccles Sports Ground.
Sports Lottery
Major bids are being prepared in association with local community groups and Pathways Partnerships for sports ground improvements at Scargreen Recreation Ground and Our Lady of the Assumption Sports Ground.
