Latest News... The City has launched its bid as a host city for the 2018 World Cup ..Liverpools sporting Glitterati attended the launch at the Liverpool Echo arena and the bid received substantial backing from Liverpool City Council and all of Merseysides proffessional and Amateur Football clubs.
Liverpool is fast becoming a major national player in sport and sporting provision. The city's Sport and Recreation Service has responsibility for the strategic planning process and the delivery of a range of sport and recreation services.

The Sport and Recreation Service
The Sport and Recreation Service offers:
- Sports development opportunities to all sectors of the community in a wide range of sporting choices from athletics to tennis
- A range of special sporting and cultural events through the sports events unit
- The management of the city's municipal golf courses,
allotments and public football pitches - A policy and development team which manages capital grants from the sports lottery fund and other agencies and advises on new leisure projects
- The Management and operation of the city's indoor Sports Centres, Swimming pools and Lifestyles Gyms
