World Heritage Site Management Plan
The Management Plan for Liverpool - Maritime Mercantile City, the nominated World Heritage Site, was commissioned by Liverpool City Council on behalf of its partners on the World Heritage Site Steering Group, with financial assistance from the North West Development Agency. The production of a Management Plan is a requirement for candidate sites under the terms of UNESCO's Operational Guidelines For The Implementation Of The World Heritage Convention.
The Management Plan will help to co-ordinate management of the site by all of the relevant agencies and stakeholders to ensure that the heritage assets that are of outstanding universal value are protected for future generations of the international community. The Management Plan seeks to secure an appropriate and equitable balance between conservation, sustainability and development, so that the World Heritage values can continue to contribute to the social and economic development and quality of life of the community.
The Management Plan was agreed by Liverpool City Council, the World Heritage Steering Group and the Government at the end of 2003. It is now operational and is available for inspection at all Liverpool City Council libraries, at the Reception in Millennium House, 60 Victoria Street, Liverpool and on this website. A Summary and CD version of the Management Plan will be available shortly.
