Neighbourhood Master Plan on Show
Edge Hill residents will have the chance to shape the future of their neighbourhood this week.
A public exhibition on a multi million pound masterplan for the regeneration of the area will be held on Friday 29 October at Kensington Primary School in Brae Street, between 10.30am and 7.30pm
The masterplan- which introduces a phased programme of rehousing, clearance and redevelopment over the next five years covers the area bounded by Edge Lane, Wavertree Road, Marmaduke Street and Durning Road. It has been developed by Bellway Homes, the preferred developer for the area, and has been based on ideas from residents during recent consultation.
Edge Hill is one of the five neighbourhoods in the Kensington Regeneration area. The area has suffered from poor housing with a lot of empty and obsolete properties and is now part of Newheartlands, the Housing Market Renewal Initiative, for Merseyside. It is also seen as a priority area for regeneration given its strategic location near to the city centre.
Local residents have expressed support for clearance of poor quality housing in the area and this is reflected in the masterplan, which also includes proposals to provide a wider choice of modern housing and increased community facilities.
Councillor Flo Clucas, Executive Member for Housing and Social Care, said:"We've been talking to the community for a while about proposals to redevelop their area but now, for the first time, the funding package, developer and development ideas are all in place to deliver real change for the residents of Edge Hill.
"This event is an opportunity for residents to view the proposals for the future of their area and ask representatives from a number of organisations about them. There will be an opportunity to find out more about the various financial packages available for home owners so I would hope as many people as possible come along.
Officers from Newheartlands, Kensington Regeneration, Community 7 (the community based housing association), Liverpool Land Development Company and Bellway Homes will be available for residents to discuss the proposals with.
