Future of Liverpool

A new plan to guide the future development of Liverpool has been published for public consultation.

The Core Strategy sets out how the council wants to see the city develop over the next 15 years.

The Core Strategy sets out broad areas of the city that will be the focus for new housing, employment and retail development.

The main features of the plan are:

  • 40,800 new houses up to 2026.

  • Maximising economic growth, especially in the City Centre.

  • Investing in district and local shopping areas.

  • Providing high quality and accessible green spaces.

  • Protecting important historic buildings.

  • Adapting to the effects of climate change.

  • Improving accessibility and managing demand for travel.
