Bascule bridge closure
A section of the dock road in Liverpool is to be closed to traffic after a survey found essential repair work was needed on a bridge.
The Stanley Dock Bascule Bridge on Regent Road will be closed preventing through traffic between Blackstone Street and Paisley Street from 2 May for up to a year.
This is to enable work to take place on the bridge after a survey found that its girders had extensive corrosion.
Further inspections will be undertaken to look at options to establish the best way to carry out work on the bridge before repairs, which could involve the replacement of girders, are carried out.
The bridge, which is in the Stanley Dock Conservation Area and the World Heritage Site was constructed in the 1930s. It is the only surviving example of a rolling bascule lifting bridge in Liverpool. It is owned by Peel Property.
Access will be maintained to businesses in the area and a diversion route through Paisley Street, Great Howard Street and Blackstone Street will be in operation.
