International day against Homophobia

Council services will be marking International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO), 17 May, with a week of events from 15-22 May.

Along with Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and other partners the council's community safety team will be helping to highlight issues surrounding homophobia and where victims of discrimination can find support.

On Thursday 15 May, at The Armistead, Musker Building, 1 Stanley Street, there will be a launch of a lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender drop-in service and information stands will be in the city on Bold Street, on Saturday 17 May, 12-3pm, and at the HUB Festival, on 18 May.

The council's work with the Lesbian, Gay Bisexual and Transgender  community continues all year through the Citysafe partnership which operates a hate crime reduction forum as well as an independent advocacy service.

Citysafe is also supporting the Stop Hate UK help and advice line, a free 24-hour helpline that can be used as an alternative to contacting the police by either victims or witnesses. Stop Hate was launched across Merseyside in April and can be contacted on 0800 138 1625 or visit www.stophateuk.org
