Mop top mania
Liverpool's biggest employer is encouraging its 17,000-strong staff to get behind the first ever Beatles day.
Liverpool City Council is backing the July 10 event, and is asking all its employees to tap into their inner Beatle by buying a mop-top wig and wearing it with pride to work on the 10th.
Leader of the city council, Warren Bradley, said: "Liverpool and the Beatles go hand in hand and it's great we are going to have a day to celebrate them and their huge contribution to the city.
"What makes this day even more special is that all the money raised is going to Alder Hey Children's Hospital and the Rhys Jones Foundation.
"We're asking all staff to get involved to help raise money and celebrate the Fab Four who helped put Liverpool on the map."
The city council's Chief Executive, Colin Hilton added: "The Beatles are part of our musical heritage and it's a great idea to have a day dedicated to them and their success.
"We want everyone from street cleaners and dinner ladies right through to traffic wardens and office staff to don a mop-top and help raise thousands of pounds for such worthwhile charities."
