An Arabic welcome

Arabic speakers in Liverpool are signing up to a scheme to wear pin badges allowing international tourists to immediately spot them as translators.

The initiative forms part of Liverpool's innovative 'Welcome Programme' ahead of the Arabic Arts Festival which begins in the city this week (Friday 11th July).

Liverpool's Lord Mayor Councillor Steve Rotheram will help launch the scheme at a meeting with the Yemeni ambassador and members of the city's Arabic community.

Councillor Rotheram said: "We are all very proud of Liverpool's diverse communities - they are an essential part of what makes Liverpool such a fantastic place in which to live.

"This initiative will have a positive impact on International visitors and means many more Arabic speakers getting a taste of that warm Liverpool welcome of which we are all proud.

"I would encourage as many people as possible to try and get to the Liverpool Arabic Festival - it truly is a wonderful event."
