Police Operation in Calderstones Park
Liverpool South Neighbourhood Police Teams and Citywatch have been working in partnership during June and July to tackle anti social behaviour and under age drinking in Calderstones Park.
The operation has been driven by Merseyside Police and supported by officers from Liverpool City Council's Citywatch `Patrol and Response` team. Citywatch patrol officers have been accompanied in their vehicles and on foot during shifts by Merseyside Police Officers.
It has been an opportunity for the patrol officers and police officers to develop an understanding of community safety issues arising in the park and how they can be tackled utilising their joint forces for the benefit of the community who use the park.
A police `Pod` had been located outside The Mansion House within the park grounds and staffed by a number of officers from the police and patrol and response team. The intention was to send out a message to any individuals or groups who are involved in acts of anti-social behaviour that this type of behaviour will not be tolerated. The presence of the officers also provided reassurance for the community who enjoy the park and its recreational value.
The profile of the Citywatch patrol officers has been significantly lifted by this operation. Local youths are now aware of the possible consequences of engaging with council officers who provide security in the park which may result in arrests and confiscation of goods, such as alcohol or both.
Over one week-end the officers made five arrests, issued eleven fixed penalty notices, confiscated over 40 containers including bottles of spirits and wine and searched six individuals out of 47 who were acting suspiciously.
