'Friends of Newsham Park` Summer Festival
Staff and pupils from the Academy of St Francis of Assisi in the Fairfield area of Liverpool and `Friends of the Park` organised a summer festival in Newsham Park for the community to enjoy.
Pupils from the Academy entertained community members, family and friends with both group and individual musical performances.
Stalls and exhibitors included representatives from the public sector such as Merseyside Police, Citysafe (including street crime wardens, community support officers from Liverpool City Councils `Anti Social Behaviour Unit,` and officers from Citywatch patrol and response team and street crime wardens), Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service, Park Rangers, Health (Primary Care Trust) and Liverpool City Council Recycling.
There were also stands covering holistic therapies, face painting, interactive (science and maths), costume jewellery, florists, raffle and tom bola. Other activities included interactive `Goal Keeper` skill sessions, tag rugby, rounders and a model boat regatta.
Entertainment was provided by a Steel band, Fade 2 (Boy Band), and year 5 students from the Academy performing `Annie` musical theatre project.
The aim of the day was for the community to come together and have a `fun day out` and also to be given an opportunity to engage with service providers in relation to community safety issues, with an emphasis on increasing feelings of safety.
