Victims of Crime International Seminar
Sandy Bowden, Citysafe's Domestic Violence Prevention Co-ordinator visited Tallinn in Estonia for an International Seminar entitled 'Victims Support - Some Good Practices'. The conference ran between 28th September and 1st October 2006.
The seminar is part of a European Commission Project created in 2003, and is co-ordinated by the Province of Milan. Its remit is to look at how victims of crime (including elderly people, children and women) are protected and supported across Europe. The aim is to share knowledge and examples of good practice.
It was one of a series of seminars, the first was in Valencia in February 2006 and there is a further seminar planned in Milan in spring 2007.
The following European cities were represented:
Athens
Dublin
Kuressaare (Estonia)
Liverpool
Milan
Pecs (Hungary)
Gothenburg (Sweden)
Valencia
Split (Croatia)
Lubjiana (Slovenia)
Bilboa
Madrid
Lisbon
Frankfurt
Kingston Upon Thames
Rome
Grenoble (France)
There were a number of formal presentations. Sandy delivered a best practice presentation of multi agency working in Liverpool (the Domestic Violence Joint Agency Group Meeting model) and the development of the Specialist Domestic Violence Court in Liverpool. There was also an opportunity for more informal sharing of experiences and best practice during the seminar.
Sandy Bowden is employed by the NSPCC and seconded to Citysafe so this is a good example of effective partnership working in Liverpool.
Bill Morris, Head of Liverpool City Council's Anti Social Behaviour Unit said: "This was a great honour for Sandy who was able to highlight to a very wide audience the excellent multi agency approach that is undertaken by Liverpool in tackling Domestic Violence. Sandy was able to share with our partners some of our success stories."
