Liverpool City Council - Family History

Family History

If your family came from Liverpool you can order birth/death/marriage certificates dating back to 1837.  A family history pack is available on request to assist you with your research.  We would recommend that you apply by post and your cheque should be made out to Liverpool City Council.

Each certificate will cost £9 and you should send individual cheques for each certificate you are requesting, with a stamped addressed envelope for the return of your certificates. You can also download a credit/debit card form from this site and post it to us with your application.  There is an extra 50p charged for debit/credit card applications.  Please note the fee will not be charged to your account until the certificate has been issued.

We are currently working within our Service Target of producing Family History applications in 14 working days.

You can also visit the Register Office in person to make your payment but your application will still go into the queuing system and cannot be collected on the same day.  We will post your certificate to you.

Firstly, we will need you to provide the name and initials of the person whose application you are requesting as recorded in the index.  Secondly, we need the district and the quarter.

Your local library or the Records Office at William Brown Street Library should be able to assist you with your search.  You can also visit www.lancashirebmd.org.uk to search for this information.  You can also make an appointment to conduct a general search through the indexes in person.

This service costs £18 for up to 6 hours.  Please contact 0151 233 4978 or e-mail registrar@liverpool.gov.uk

Please note the Register Office cannot assist with your searches without the relevant information as listed above.
