Race Equality Scheme
Revised Draft Race Equality Scheme 2008 - 2011
We are currently consulting on the City Council's 3rd Race Equality Scheme in line with our responsibilities under the Race Relations Amendment Act 2000.
Since our first scheme was launched in 2002 the City Council has been working closely with the black and minority ethnic (BME) communities in Liverpool in order to improve the services we provide.
As the largest employer in the city, the council has been working hard to ensure that its workforce reflects the diverse communities we serve and as a result we have achieved many successes.
We believe that we have come along way since our last scheme, but appreciate that we still have a lot of work to do in partnership with the diverse communities of Liverpool.
The success of this scheme and its associated action plans will be judged on the impact across all the council's services and the degree to which we reduce inequality across our city.
The council would like to invite your feedback on the draft document. Visit our consultation page to view the full draft Scheme, a Summary of the Scheme and to complete a questionnaire.

Race Equality Scheme 2006
This is the City Council's current and 2nd Race Equality Scheme in line with our responsibilities under the Race Relations Amendment Act 2000.
Our 1st scheme was launched in 2002and the City Council has been working closely with the BME communities in Liverpool to improve the services that we provide.
The Council is one of the largest employers' in the city and has been working hard to ensure that its workforce reflects the diverse communities that we serve. We have achieved the following successes:
- We have become one of the top performing councils on equality issues, including our performance on the race equality scheme.
- We are among the top 25% of performing councils for the % of BME staff we employ.
- We have launched a new staff diversity forum with staff representation from the BME communities.
- All service managers in the City Council now have an equality action plan; race equality is an integral part of these plans. These are monitored centrally and are reported on a monthly basis and published on our web pages on a quarterly basis.
We believe that we have come along way since our last scheme, but we do appreciate that we still have a lot of work to do in partnership with the diverse communities of Liverpool. The success of this scheme and its associated action plans will be judged on the impact on all the Council's services and the degree to which we reduce inequality across the city. The scheme is a 'live' document and we will report on progress on a regular basis.
