Firearms and gun crime

A wide range of partners, including Citysafe and Merseyside Police, have developed a Gun Crime Strategy for Liverpool. The strategy aims to address gun crime in two ways:
1. Reducing the supply of illegal firearms using new and existing partnerships, intelligence and enforcement;
2. Influencing the increasing firearms culture through education and community involvement.
By educating youngsters on the dangers of firearms long-term, sustainable reductions in gun crime and the fear of gun crime can be achieved.
Citysafe has funded several campaigns aimed at children and young people, including educational campaigns, rapping courses, and a poster campaign. Schoolchildren across Liverpool entered the competition, and posters based on their entries are displayed in the city.
As well as prevention, all partners are working together to deal with firearm incidents and the aftermath. One example of this is the provision of an elite service for victims and witnesses of gun crime through Victim and Witness Support.
