- This makes up an important area linking the M62 motorway with Liverpool City Centre. Major environmental improvements are underway to the main artery road, Edge Lane. The Hall Lane Strategic Gateway scheme is currently being reconsidered following the news that the Royal Liverpool Hospital is to expand here.
- Although Kensington has some unfit and unwanted housing that will be dealt with by the Housing Market Renewal Initiative, both Kensington and Wavertree also have Conservation Areas containing fine examples of domestic architecture.
- The area is straddled by the Eastern Approaches Strategic Investment Area. This contains Wavertree Technology Park and Edge Lane Retail Park. Money is being spent here to invest and create new jobs.
- Further to the north and east are two of Liverpool's major parks: Newsham Park and part of Croxteth Country Park.
- The area is also home to Alder Hey Children's Hospital.

South Central
- This area covers the wards of Riverside, Princes Park, Mossley Hill and St Michaels. These all sit just to the south of the City Centre. South Central also includes the area bounded by Upper Parliament Street; Sefton Park; Aigburth Vale; the Liverpool/London railway line; and the riverfront.
- South Central has many beautiful listed buildings. A large part of the area is within eight Conservation Areas. These contain a mix of Victorian and Edwardian homes - mainly terraced and newer estates mainly built by the public sector.
- The area also includes part of the affluent southern riverfront development and the much sought-after homes around Sefton Park. Other parks and leisure facilities within the area are Greenbank and Princes Park.
- South Central is home to many of the city's diverse communities. It also acts as a social, cultural and economic focus for many more.
