North Liverpool

  • North Liverpool is famous for the fact that it is the home of Liverpool's two football clubs. Liverpool Football Club and Everton Football Club both sit on either side of the magnificent Stanley Park.

  • The area's main problem is that there is too much early 20th century terraced housing; and not enough quality or variety of new housing stock. When our residents get better jobs, they look outside the city for middle ranged homes for them to buy.  However, the Housing Market Renewal Initiative is currently getting into gear to radically restructure the faltering housing market here.

  • The Council is working closely with local residents to make sure they feel involved in the plans for demolition and renovations of existing homes; and the designs of new replacement houses.

  • A new district centre is to be built on Great Homer Street.  The scheme is called Project Jennifer.

  • Also, the Atlantic Gateway Strategic Investment Area will bring new money into the local economy.  This will help to create new jobs in a strip which runs alongside the northern docks, including the Stanley Dock and stretching into Bootle.

Alt Valley

  • The Alt Valley area covers the north east edge of the city.  It sits on either side of the A580 East Lancashire Road,  between the Queens Drive and M57 ring roads.  It covers the Council wards of Warbreck, Fazakerley, Croxteth, Norris Green and parts of Clubmoor.

  • Here, there are large inter and post-war 'garden-suburb' municipal estates like Norris Green and Croxteth.  Most of these homes here have now transferred to Cobalt Housing Association.

  • Large modern day private housing estates now surround Croxteth Park.  There are also streets of Victorian and Edwardian terraces and villas in Fazakerley and Orrell Park.

  • As well as its housing areas, there are major places where people work in Alt Valley, such as Aintree Industrial Estate.  With 189 businesses employing 5,000 people, this is covered by the Approach 580 Strategic Investment Area which extends into nearby Knowsley.

  • Alt Valley is also home to facilities of city wide and regional importance such as Fazakerley Hospital/Neurological centre and Altcourse and Walton Prisons.

  • There are two vibrant district shopping centres  - Broadway and Walton Vale - together with a number of smaller shopping facilities.  A new shopping centre will be built at Stonebridge Cross.  This will be part of a major new development to include new housing.
