Speke/Garston

  • Speke Garston is one of the city's major success stories in recent years.  The Speke Garston Development Company (and subsequently the Liverpool Land Development Company) has been spending large sums of money to create jobs around Liverpool John Lennon Airport.  This includes the Estuary Business Park, Boulevard Industry Park and Mersey Retail Park where many new jobs have arrived, and the demand for quality housing has risen - particularly in Garston.

  • South Liverpool Housing now manages the former Council-owned estate at Speke.  The modernising of these homes is now underway.

  • Both Speke and Garston have had new schools built in the last few years.  Further improvements to their shopping facilities are either underway or planned.

  • New homes are to be built at Garston under the Bridge.  These will replace the many unwanted terraced homes that are currently empty.

  • The area also has the magnificent Speke Hall as its major tourist attraction.

South Suburbs

  • The South Suburbs area has the largest collection of Liverpool's most desirable properties.  There are many prestige detached homes in tree-lined streets here.  The area was once a collection of satellite villages such as the picturesque Woolton.  All of these were absorbed into Liverpool as the city expanded during the 20th century.

  • The area has a large proportion of the city's parkland.  Both Calderstones Park and Camphill & Woolton Woods can be found here.

  • The ward of Allerton is home to Penny Lane.  This was made famous by the Beatles and one of the former homes of Paul McCartney, 20 Forthlin Road which you can visit.

  • Childwall is one of the city's most sought after areas for luxury homes.  Liverpool Hope University is located here, and the area is also well known for its television production ties.  Lime Pictures is based here and produces popular programmes such as "Hollyoaks" and "Grange Hill".  Until 2003 it was also the home-base of the famous Liverpool soap "Brookside".
