Liverpool City Council - city suburbs

City Suburbs

various pictures from Liverpools suburbs

In recent years, the booming economy of the city centre has helped some of our suburbs become very popular places to live. After many years of decline, less people are moving away to find better homes.  Instead they are choosing to stay in the city, whilst more people are moving here to live.

The rise of City Centre Living is well documented.  However, many of Liverpool's suburbs have been performing extremely well.  House prices have been rising at a faster rate than the national average as people have seen what a pleasant environment Liverpool can offer.  Our services have been improving; and sometimes have been well commended.  These include our schools and Neighbourhood Management Services

Our traditionally popular areas such as West Derby, Woolton, Aigburth, Calderstones, Allerton and Mossley Hill have always been very popular places to live.  As money has been spent creating jobs in our Strategic Investment Areas, places such as Speke Garston and Wavertree adjoining these have seen huge rises in home values.

In 2004, Liverpool's house prices soared by 22%, compared to the national increase of 9% and 15% in the North West.  During this period, the average property price in the city went up from £111,660 to £136,262.  Since that time, overall house prices in the city have continued to rise even more.

First time visitors to Liverpool are always staggered at the beauty of the inner city buildings; and at how green the city's residential areas are. Within the city are an impressive 96 district, city and neighbourhood parks covering a total of 2500 acres. South Liverpool in particular is riddled with parks and gardens, with many tree-lined streets.  We have more street trees than any other British city outside London!

  • Liverpool is rightly proud of its parks - and of a recent record which has made other towns and cities green with envy! Seven of our parks: Calderstones Park, Reynolds Park, Woolton Woods and Camphill, St John's Gardens, St. Nicholas Church Garden, Falkner Square and Everton Park Nature Garden have all gained the Green Flag award, the national standard for green spaces and good park management.
