Bollards
We sometimes introduced bollards on the highway in areas where they can improve road safety. We do not generally use them to stop people from parking on pavements. While pavement parking can be a problem because of the damage it can cause, we can only stop people from doing it where there are yellow lines on the road where the vehicle is parked or when vehicles are causing an obstruction.
If vehicles are causing an obstruction you should report them to Merseyside Police. Visit the Merseyside Police website to find the telephone number of your nearest station.
We use hydraulic bollards in Liverpool City Centre to stop vehicles entering the main shopping areas during peak times. When the bollards are raised, vehicles are not allowed to enter the area. Restrictions apply 7 days a week between the following times:
- Between 10 am and 6 pm no vehicles are permitted to access the area (between 10 am and 11 pm in the Cavern Quarter area)
- Between 6 am and 10 am vehicular access is restricted to loading only.
