Culture Bus
THE CULTURE BUS PROJECT HAS NOW ENDED.
The Culture Bus service was run by Liverpool City Council to provide dedicated free transport to schools in Working Neighbourhood Fund (WNF) areas of Liverpool. The aim was to give these schools and their students access to the various cultural venues and events that the city has to offer.
The Culture Bus project provided 16,037 children with free transport to a wide variety of cultural venues within Merseyside over the past two years. The service was extremely popular with groups visiting venues such as Liverpool's two Cathedrals, the cities art galleries, museums and theatres, and events such as the Brouhaha Festival. The children involved were able to learn more about their heritage and the exciting city that they live in.
QUOTES ABOUT THE SERVICE
"Thank you to the Culture Bus service. The service was friendly, efficient and flexible, and through this service the children were able to learn in a more creative, exciting way."
"A fantastic facility - thank you very much. The whole experience was great. The children loved the colour and decoration of the bus & it gave them a great opportunity to sketch the Palm House in 'real life' rather than copying a picture. Many thanks."
"The Culture Bus is a fantastic service. We are in a fairly deprived area and most of the children's parents can't afford the cost of a school trip. We are supposed to provide education outside of the classroom - the Culture Bus has made this possible."
"This service is crucial for children from disadvantaged backgrounds to experience their city. Transport is a major factor when organising school trips. We would not have organised this trip if it hadn't been for the free bus!"
"Using this service has meant that our children have been able to access the curriculum on a deeper level without putting their families under financial pressure."
