Street Smartz
- Are you a student in Year 9 or above who is worried about road safety in Liverpool
- Are you fed up with the same old road safety plays and videos telling you the same old story?
The Road Safety Team has developed a very new and exciting DVD which is guaranteed to stimulate debate amongst teachers and students. Using realistic situations each character highlights a different road safety issue. The filming took place in several locations around the City and all the actors are local too. An accompanying teacher/tutor pack is included with the DVD including sample lesson plans and suggested activities.
In Car Safety
The Government introduced new regulations for the safety of everyone travelling in cars, vans and goods vehicles, especially for children up to 12 years old or under 135cm in height. This law came into effect on the 18th September 2006.
We have highlighted the following as important points for you to consider:
- Children must be in an appropriate seat; baby seat, child seat, booster seat or booster cushion according to their age and weight in all vehicles.
- Rear facing baby seats are only to be used in the front of a vehicle if the air bag has been deactivated.
- You cannot have an unrestrained child in the front of a car or any other vehicle at any time.
- A child may use an adult seatbelt when they reach the age of 12 or have grown to 135cm, which ever comes first.
- It is important to highlight, that child restraints and seatbelts must be replaced after a collision.
There are also other seatbelt issues that are important for everyone, such as the following:
- Adjust your seatbelt so it fits correctly - for example not having the lap section of the belt across your stomach, it should be across the hip bones.
- Pregnant women must ensure that a seatbelt is worn and that they are adjusted in the correct position.
