Highway licences
If you want to put something on to the public highway you must first apply for a licence. You might need a licence for:
- Pavement cafes - it has become popular for cafes and restaurants to put tables and chairs on the pavement. Before we give out a licence we check to make sure there are no potential safety issues.
- Signs on the highway - we try not to put too many signs on the highway but in some cases, and provided it is safe to do so, we may issue licences for private signs, for example to advertise an event.
- Overhanging buildings / canopies - where a canopy or part of a building projects over the highway.
- Other works - Memorials, flagpoles, cellar openings private drains, cables etc.
To find out if you need a licence, email Highways.Management@liverpool.gov.uk or call us on 0151 233 3001. You can also write to us as the address below.
