Liverpool City Council - why cycle

Getting started

Whatever your reason for chosing to get out on your bike, we want to encourage you to cycle - and to cycle more.  Throughout these pages you'll find many ways to make cycling easy.

So what are you waiting for?   Get on your bike....

It's convenient and efficient!
Cycling can take you door to door - using the most direct route.  It offers you the freedom of choice to go where you want, when you want.  No need to worry about finding a parking space or  being stuck in traffic.  Fast, direct and convenient, for many journeys cycling is just the best way to get around.

It's good for you!
Most people will tell you that physical activity makes them feel good.  Being outside in the fresh air, with friends or alone, cycling can have that positive effect on you. It wakes you up in the morning and helps you to wind down in the evening.

It's easy to fit into your lifestyle!
Most people would agree that they need to exercise more often.  Activity levels are declining due to changes in the way we work, travel, shop and spend our leisure time.  Sometimes the problem with exercise is to find the time to do it.  Exchanging the car for your bike on a regular journey such as going to work or school is an easy way of getting regular exercise without having to change your routine.  On a bike you can travel four times faster than you can walk for the same amount of energy.

It's low cost!
Cycling is a cheap way to get around.  Try swapping the car for a week and see how much money you save on petrol and parking.

It's good for everyone!
More cycling doesn't just benefit you but its also great for everyone else.  Bikes are pollution free, help to ease congestion and create no noise.
