Liverpool City Council - public transport

Public transport

Liverpool is well served by public transport.

Car Club

Liverpool's City Centre Car Club launched in Liverpool on 22nd July 2006.  The car club offers pay-as-you-go car hire (from as little as one hour) to residents of Liverpool.  The cars are located on street in various parts of the City Centre.  Car clubs provide access to a car when one is needed without the running costs (fuel, tax, maintenance and insurance) of ownership as the hourly rate covers this. The club is open to both residents and businesses and is operated by WhizzGo who run clubs in Manchester, Leeds, York and many other cities.  If you would like to find out more about the club or where the cars are located please contact the Transport Policy team or visit the Whizzgo website. The club is operated in partnership with Liverpool City Council and aims to tackle congestion and reduce parking demand by offering an alternative to private car ownership.

Buses

Liverpool City Centre has two major bus stations - Paradise Street Bus Station and the Queen Square Bus Station. Other main bus stops can be found at Victoria Street, Sir Thomas Street, London Road and Renshaw Street.

Trains
Liverpool has one of the most frequent commuter services outside London. The Northern Line connects Liverpool with Ormskirk, Kirkby, Southport and Hunts Cross, while the Wirral Line links Liverpool with West Kirby, Ellesmere Port, New Brighton and Chester. The local trains serve Liverpool City Centre at four stations: Liverpool Central, Moorfields, James Street and Lime Street, which is the City's main train station, serving local and national routes.
